The Ship for World Youth (SWY) program celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2008.
International Youth Exchange Organization of Japan (IYEO) organized commemorative events
to celebrate this special year.

Objective:
It was commonly agreed during the SWYAA Ex-PY Conference 2007 that every SWYAA should organize
commemorative events for SWY20th Anniversary Year.
Following this, IYEO decided to organize a charity event on the departure day of SWY20, January 24,
of which the profit (donations) will be used for environment conservation activities.

Aim:
Throughout the year of 2008, we have organized charity events to raise 500,000 yen, which enabled
us to plant a
"Ship for World Youth Forest" in Bali, Indonesia.
The expected size of the forest that we are planting is 0.3 hectare (3,000 sq. meters).

The "
Ship for World Youth Forest" will contribute to reducing the speed of global warming by absorbing
carbon dioxide and emitting oxygen. It will also regenerate the forest around the lake, which will provide
clean water to the local residents.

Future:
Ten years from now, the "
Ship for World Youth Forest" will be like this:
- Grow larger and generate more oxygent, and also absorb more carbon dioxide
- Some of the woods will be harvested to make timber, which will protect native forest from illegal deforestation.
- Deserted area will be filled with green, and wild birds and animals will come back to the nature.

The forest will be planted and maintained by the Yayasan Bali Hijau Lestari (NPO) and Bali Provicial
Foresty Service of Indonesia. The tree planting in Bali will be administered with the cooperation of
NPO Asian Green Forest Network.

Hosting Organizations:
International Youth Exchange Organization of Japan (IYEO)
Ship for World Youth Alumni Association (SWYAA)
